Orchestra: We currently offer three periods of orchestra for our students. In sixth grade we place students in ensembles by experience level to better serve student needs. The range in musicianship for string players at this age varies much more widely than for wind players. Some students start violin as young as three years old, while some begin playing in sixth grade. Mr. Nowak teaches beginning sixth grade strings and Ms. Lazzari teaches the more advanced students. As with band, sixth grade is a great time for students to switch from violin to viola, cello, or bass. Our program has these instruments to lend to students and our ensembles sound best when we have a balance of all these instruments.
Seventh and eighth grade orchestra, taught by Ms. Lazzari, is currently one large orchestra incorporating violin, viola, cello, and bass. Students progress to more challenging music in this ensemble.
